I turned the corner and saw you standing there.

I noticed you were thinner and you'd cut your hair.

Too late because you'd seen me to go the other way

So we talked about your new job and friends from the old days.

I was thinking how I'd chased you until you loved me too

And that first night we shared a bed when everything was new.

So where did our love go when it slipped away?

Did two more people find it? Do they think that it will stay?

What happens to the lonely souls it leaves in it's wake?

I wish I'd passed by later or gone the other way.

After we'd made small talk you said you had to go.

No reason to be strangers. I wish that that was so.

There's just too many memories like that last long night

When we hurled hard words across the room till the morning light.

So where did our love go when it slipped away?

Did two more people find it? Do they think that it will stay?

What happens to the lonely souls it leaves in it's wake?

I wish I'd passed by later or gone the other way.

I turned the corner and saw you standing there.

I noticed you were thinner, and you'd cut your hair.
